This issue may reportedly affect certain years of vehicle models including the following:
- 3 Series
- 4 Series
- 5 Series
- 6 Series
- 7 Series
- I3
- I5
- IX
- X1
- X3
- X4
- X5
- X6
- X7
- Mini Countryman
Examples of complaints include:
- “Passenger restraint system malfunction. According to information on the web and several BMW forums, this is a common problem on these vehicles and it is a serious and inherently unsafe issue that should necessitate a recall from the manufacturer. The root cause is typically a malfunction of the passenger seat pad that is utilized by the passenger restraint system. BMW service repair cost is $2,700-$3,000. . . .”
- “The passenger seat is a mess. There are two issues that repeatedly happen on this car. One – there is false passengerseatbelt warning and two [there] is a passenger restraint system malfunction message. I took this to the BMW dealership and they said it requires a sensor mat replacement that costs over $2000. . . .”
